I NEED YOUR HELP!
To finance the construction of future models, I am relying on donations (of any amount) from generous individuals who visit this site. Funds generated will be used to setup a DSL connection for faster updates, the purchase of tools, reference materials and equipment specially a colored printer which will dramatically improve the output and quality of the models.
WELCOME !!!
This is a Cardboard Modeling Site!
This site is dedicated to cardboard and paper model hobbyists around the world, who like me, have a passion for replicating things and objects through cardboard, paper or plastic card. All the models featured are designed and built from scratch and is entirely made of cardboard.
I cannot recall when I started to build cardboard models (maybe even as early as prep school). I always liked toys but cannot afford them so I started to build my own. I remember rushing from school eager to construct my own cardboard toys of airplanes, spaceships, robots and other characters. I may have constructed hundreds of models in my youth. Unfortunately, all of them ended up destroyed either by me blowing them up with fireworks, being burned or were just thrown out as garbage by my mother. When I graduated from high school (20 years ago !), I gave this hobby up regarding it as just a part of my childhood.
One day while surfing the web, I accidentally found myself in a site dedicated to cardboard models. I was surprised at the impressive models in display although the subjects were mostly based on aircraft. I thought to myself, "Can I still do it?". I bought the materials I needed to find out.
The results are based on two Japanese cartoon robots popular during the 1970s. These cartoons or Anime had a tremendous impact on me growing up. Both are entirely made from cardboard. Relying only on memory, they are not built to scale.
Mazinger Z
Mazinger Z was a popular cartoon that introduced me to the magic of Japanese Anime. It was piloted by the young and inexperienced Koji Kabuto. This powerful robot defended the world from its invaders. This model took me three days(on and off) to build and paint. It stands 11.5 inches tall and 7 inches across. It is painted with water based poster colors.
Voltes V
This model is based on Voltes V, considered as the benchmark for all other Anime robots that followed. The innovative concept of combining 5 battle vehicles to form one powerful robot (volting in) and a great story made this cartoon tremendously popular and unforgetable. This model took me four days to build and paint and has semi-articulated arms and legs. I was still finishing it when I took the pictures. (notice the plastic joint holders) I have completed the model icluding the back details and some additional painting. It stands 10 inches and is 4 inches wide. I made a version of it years ago that can volt-in but was eventually lost. (thrown out).
